Discover the Heart of East Java
Nestled between the lush highlands of East Java, Kalibaru is a charming hill-country town—home to Margo Utomo and a gateway to Banyuwangi’s natural wonders. From the mystical Ijen Crater to the remote Sukamade Beach, Banyuwangi offers a rare blend of mountains, forests, and coastline, shaped by rich local culture. The indigenous Osing people still speak their own dialect—a unique mix of Javanese and Balinese—and preserve timeless traditions like the Gandrung dance and hand-drawn batik (batik tulis). Kalibaru itself sits at 420 meters above sea level, offering cooler air, scenic plantations, and easy access via train or car from Banyuwangi, Surabaya, or even Bali. The journey here is part of the charm—passing through rural villages, rice terraces, and quiet forest roads. Whether you're coming for adventure, nature, or culture, Margo Utomo is your perfect base to explore East Java’s wild beauty.
To the Edge of Time The Sukamade Turtle Journey
Hidden beyond jungle trails and river crossings lies a forgotten coastline-Sukamade, where nature writes quietly in the sand. Each night, under a canopy of stars, sea turtles return to lay their eggs in the place they were born. It is a ritual older than memory, untouched by haste. The road to Sukamade isn’t easy. It’s a passage through wild rainforests and hushed landscapes, where human presence fades into observation. But those who make the journey are granted a rare privilege: to witness life’s most delicate moment-birth, in the rawest sense. This is not just a visit. It’s an invitation to slow down, to respect, and to reconnect.

Ijen Crater Tour – Chasing the Blue Flame
Before dawn, ascend into Ijen’s highlands to witness the rare electric-blue fire—found in only a few places on Earth. As daylight breaks, the turquoise crater lake and silhouettes of sulphur miners emerge, revealing a striking contrast of light, fire, silence, and strength. Recommended for active and fit participants, this challenging trek offers breathtaking volcanic scenery and a glimpse into the miners’ gruelling work. For safety, visitors are not allowed to descend to the Crater Lake, also known as Hell’s Kitchen.
A Sacred Ascent into the Wild
Mount Raung, one of Java's most formidable volcanoes, is surrounded by thick forests and a massive caldera. Reaching its summit requires endurance and respect. The journey through mossy trails and silent ridges leads to the peak at 3,344 meters, offering clarity and a deep connection with nature.
